All dogs that are lucky enough to have their dog-parents schedule them for a professional photo session by A Dog’s Life Photography at the fabulous Oh My Dog Boutique and Spa in Old Town Scottsdale on either September 18th or October 2nd will automatically have their photos submitted to the judges, which include representatives from some very high end pet product lines. Selected dogs will be photographed with the pet products that will be featured in the 2012 calendar published by Oh My Dog.

For the low entry fee of $150 you will receive a professional 30 minute photo session, including 5 edited and web-optimized images (A $250 value!)

For an additional $50, Jackie and the OMD Styling Team will style your dog with Clothing, Accessories and Props to simulate a real model cover shoot. A complimentary high resolution, professionally enhanced and edited digital photo (valued at $100) is also included.

I am a very loving and sweet boy. I am just shy of one year of age and have already battled the streets of Phoenix. A good Samaritan, an angel, picked me up and brought me to the Arizona Humane Society where I was given food, water, and shelter. I had been on the streets a long time and these things I missed the most. I cannot tell you that I miss my old family, if I had one, because they didn’t care enough to keep me or come find me when I got lost. How could someone not care about me, the gift from Heaven? When I stepped on the scale before my first meal, I weighed only 39 pounds. You can see all my bones and visibly see I have lost most of my muscles. I was covered in ticks, the big fat green kind, and was covered in dirt from head to toe  If I wasn’t saved before Christmas, I’m not sure if I would have made it through to see 2011. Due to my condition, and a case of kennel cough, I was sent to a rescue that could provide me the rehabilitation I so desperately need.

Now in a loving foster home, I have a crate to call my very own. It has a blanket that keeps me warm while I sleep and I don’t have to share it with anyone. I also have a fancy new collar with tags so I don’t get lost again and nice bright red leash. They gave me a warm shower and removed all the ticks that were sucking the life out of me. I even got to cuddle with a human while wrapped in a big snuggly towel! All of this is just for me. Can you believe it? These people know I’m a gift!

I cough a lot when I eat, so right now I’m not a big fan. Hopefully when my kennel cough goes away I will want to eat more. I don’t like looking at my skeleton in the mirror. It is a little gross and makes me queasy. I am learning how to play with toys and other dogs. When I’m not learning to play, I like to lay on a big cushy bed for dogs or sleep at my foster mom’s feet. The favorite part of my day is when my foster mom pets me. Simple pets make me very happy and remind me of the love I probably once felt as a small, cute puppy.

I haven’t had any formal training, shocker right? I don’t really know any obedience, but I want to learn, so please teach me. I want to make sure I am perfect so you won’t send me to the desert again. It was scary. If you don’t teach me, I won’t learn, and that will not be my fault. It will be yours. I’m a bit mouthy and might be too much for little kids.  My foster mom says I’m a little spastic on a leash. I love to run around, weaving in and out of your legs and around other dogs. You should see the beautiful messes I get into with my leash! I’m learning that this isn’t a game and is actually dangerous for me. Who knew a human would care about me being in danger? Must be another angel.

I know that grass is meant for going potty. In the house, I do not know yet how to tell you I have to go potty, so please watch me and take me out frequently until I catch on. Again, you need to teach me.

When we are outside, I will make sure to protect you from strangers or scary noises. I will ‘woo’ at danger to alert you, but because I’m so small I probably won’t actually be able to protect you so please let me stand behind you if needed. I recently got scared by the reflection of myself and that of my foster mom in the patio door and sent myself into a ‘wooing’ frenzy until I realized it wasn’t real. I will sure keep you entertained while I learn the ropes of living with a family!

I tested positive for Valley Fever with a titer of 1:32.  My symptoms at this time are just coughing so hopefully we’ve cought the disease in time so it doesn’t go into my joints!  I will need to be on medication until the vet says to stop….depending on how my body reacts to the medication, it’s unknown how long this well be.  I am tolerating the meds great, so hopefully this will be a non-issue for you!

Our rescue group photo program was developed to provide you with some super-awesome, high-impact photos to help promote the adoption of your dogs and your rescue group at absolutely no charge to you.  This program can even help to raise funds for your organization! With the photos that we take of your dogs, we create photo gift items and set them up on a page dedicated solely to your rescue group on our gift shop at www.dogrescuegifts.com.

Even more great news…. Laura Sand (amazing photographer and Photoshop whiz!) is taking over all of our private clients. This means that Susan Schmitz (the owner of A Dog’s Life Photography) is now devoting 100% of her efforts towards building out this program and helping rescue groups!

You’re not a dog rescue group? Guess what… We are now expanding our program to ALL ANIMAL RESCUE GROUPS! And we are in dire need of photos of different types of animals. Cats, bunnies, reptiles, hampsters… you are all welcome to join! We REALLY need photos of baby animals and we will open up our schedule for special photo shoots for your little ones.

To take advantage of this opportunity, you must be able and willing to bring the adoptable animals to our studio at 40th St. and Indian School. If you rescue large animals, contact us anyway and we will try to get out to you if you are local.

Here’s the scoop:

You will receive:

• At least 5 professionally edited photos of the dog that is being photographed in different poses. All photos will be on a plain white background to allow for easy integration into your website, blog, marketing materials, etc.
• Low resolution photos with a transparent watermark will be provided for you to share on your website, social networking sites and blogs.
• High resolution files with only a small copyright notice that is not obstructing the image of the dog will be provided for use on your printed marketing materials and adoption ads.
• 20% of net proceeds of sales of items on our gift shop and on our private stock photography library that depict photos of the dogs that were provided by your rescue group.

You are allowed to bring in one dog per month that is currently up for adoption.  You can use the photos to promote the adoption of the photographed dog or to promote your rescue group as long as the following rules are followed:

• You can share the low resolution watermarked photos with the world. Do whatever you want with them!
• You can use the high resolution photos to promote your business or non-profit by placing the photos on print publications and/or you may securely integrate them into your website layout in a manner that does not allow anyone to right click and copy the photos. You must keep our copyright notice in place on the photo in any type of usage.
• You cannot share the high resolution photos with anyone outside of your organization by email or by any other form of electronic transmission. (feel free to use the low resolution watermarked photos for this).
• You cannot place the images on any products or any print on demand items (Café Press, Zazzle or similar services) that are being sold for a profit. This type of usage requires the purchase of an enhanced license.
• You cannot use the photo to create a logo for your business without the purchase of an enhanced license.
• You cannot use the photo as a reference for artwork that your or someone else does without our permission. Permission may be granted as long as you have the artist change the image up quite a bit so it is not a clone of the photo and it is not being resold for a profit or in any fundraising raffles or silent auctions. This type of usage normally requires the purchase of an enhanced license (current enhanced license fee is $100.00). This fee will be waived on a case by case basis.

ADDED BONUS - If you are a volunteer for a rescue group, you are eligible for a 20% discount off of our private photo session fees.

On a side note… We are asked to do a lot of photo calendars each year. Due to the extensive amount of work that we put into these calendars, we have limited it to two per year. So, get your requests for 2011 in as soon as possible! Our calendar fee is $1000.00 or $500.00 plus 30% of net proceeds of all sales. (You can always plan on bringing in one dog a month for photos and use them to create your own calendar).

Your pet could be famous!

Stock photography is a supply of photographs that are licensed for specific uses such as product labels, advertisements, greeting cards, calendars, etc. We are specifically targeting the veterinarian industry with this photo shoot. So, the photos would most likely show up on ads for veterinarian offices or appointment reminder cards or even get well cards.

We are looking for a few animals that meet the following criteria:

A small dog of a common breed that is:

• Very friendly and not afraid of strangers
• Obeys basic sit, lay and stay commands for an extended period of time
• Will tolerate being put into costumes
• Adorable, of course
• Will work for treats

A medium size dog of a common breed that meets all of the preceding requirements plus:

• Will stay in an upright begging position for an extended period of time

Puppies of a common breed or kittens that are 6-8 weeks old and are super cute!

Bunnies, chicks or any other small, young & cute animals

Models and their parents/handlers must be available during the day on Saturday, October 16th, be willing to bring the animal to our studio in Phoenix at 40th St. and Indian School and must be willing to sign a legal waiver of all rights to the images.

You will be compensated with a free photo session ($175.00 value) and at least 5 professionally edited high resolution digital files (valued at $50.00 each).
