Meet Sugar the Itty-Bitty Pitty

Story by Sugar’s Foster Mom:

Sugar found her foster family. She walked up to my husband and licked the back of his calf. When he turned around he saw a starving little sweetheart that was just skin and bones. She had very full teats, and it was obvious that she had puppies in the recent past. The kindness in her eyes pulled at my husband’s heartstrings, and he took her into his office and fed her what he could from the refrigerator. He and his co-worker searched for the puppies to no avail. Sugar was no help as she would not leave my husband’s side.

My husband’s office is located in an industrial area of the city, and it became obvious that Sugar had been dumped. Sugar has had the tops of her ears cut off as is done with dogs used as breeders. Because Sugar is so tiny (she only comes up to your knee), she was probably used as a breeder, and once her job was done, she was left in the streets to starve. She is by no means a fighter, she gets along great with all of our other dogs (a lab, shepherd, malti-poo, and Chihuahua) our two cats, and our two year old son. She has no propensity towards aggression.

However, Sugar is a puppy and loves to play! The day after we found Sugar, we took her to the vet. He said that she is very young, and probably got pregnant on her first heat. She is definitely ready for her forever home, and she deserves the best. Can you adopt her?

For mor information on how you can adopt Sugar or any of the many dogs in need of fur-ever homes that are under the care of Valley Dogs Rescue Group, visit their website at www.ValleyDogs.org.

Max is an adorable English Bulldog and Chinese Shar-Pei Mix.

Max was found at a car wash in South Phoenix. He was dragging a long rope (he had easily chewed through with his incredible teeth – Extremely large K9’s). He walked past lots of people waiting for their cars to be cleaned and stopped at a woman and her daughter. He sat, smiled, waited for a petting and then moved on and left the car wash. The woman could not get him out of her mind. A frantic call was made to her husband to come quick and find him, get him off the street prior to being hit. So, he drove quickly and arrived to find his wife standing in the middle of a side street but, no dog in site. As she leaned into the passenger window and said I cannot find him Max appeared in front of the car wiggling his nub of a tail and seeking her attention once again. He was quickly scooped up and taken to safety.

Max was in bad shape. He had been badly bitten from dog fights. His head had multiple punctures that were very infected with discharge. Max was also very skinny and in need of a good bath! The family posted him as a found dog but no one claimed him. So, he was to be put up for adoption though Valley Dogs. The issue was there were no fosters available. So, the family agreed to foster him until a new home was found. The family became foster flunkies. Now 7 years later he is “plump”, happy and guards the back yard 12 hours a day from lizard and bird attacks. Once in a while he brings one in to show off!

He now is the Beta in the dog pack and adopts all of the puppies brought into the home as fosters. He chews on them (play – most completely fit in his huge mouth) and licks them until soaked.

Everyone that meets him wants to know where they can get one. An English Bull Dog / Chinese Shar-Pei mix is very rare and makes an incredible dog. Max is an example of why mix breeds are so great!

Boy was I happy to join my foster family! My favorite part of the day is going on walks. I can check out what’s going on in the neighborhood and get some exercise. I also like to play with my squeaky toy and snuggle in the laps of my foster parents.

I always have to be up-to-date on what is happening in the house so I sometimes sit up on my hind legs so I can see everything that is going on since I’m pretty little.

I love to stay warm – especially during the winter time, so I like to hang out in my sweater and snuggle in warm blankets. I don’t mind my foster brother and sister dogs – sometimes we play but I like to do my own thing too. I’m pretty low maintenance but enjoy being where the people are in the house.

The nice people at Valley Dog’s Rescue are taking very good care of me but I would really like to find my fur-ever home. Please click here to find out more information about how you can become my new family.

Our day out at the dog park... have a look-see at the super cute stars of the Chaparral Dog Park in Scottsdale, AZ!

We had an absolute blast at the Chaparral Dog Park last Saturday! It was my first time, although I had heard many amazing things about it. Susan and I were dog-less so that we could focus on all the action around us, however, I do promise to take my babies back there one day. My greyhounds will tear that place up!

So here is what you came for, the photos from the shoot (take special note of the adorable three-way kiss toward the end). If your dogs have been featured (or you love one of the pictures so much, you simply must have it) you can click this link to be whisked away to a private viewing gallery for making such purchases. Don’t forget, you can do more than just get prints, you can get note cards (very popular these days) or a mouse pad or one of many other super cool things. If you should be so inclined, message me directly, laura@adogslifephoto.com for more information.

Should you have fallen completely in love with us and want to schedule a session (right after you have become a fan of ours on Facebook), you can click on the info link above to get answers to your pricing questions or the contact link to contact us directly.

Thanks for viewing and a very special thank you to the dog moms and dads at the park. You were amazing to meet and your fur babies were one of a kind… each and every one of them!

~Laura

Louisa is a sweet adult female Boxer that is up for adoption through Almost Home Boxer Rescue. She was a load of fun during her photo session. Her foster mom wanted to get some good shots of her crazy tongue that’s long enough to wrap around half her head! I think we got some cute ones:

Here’s her bio written by Jane Welchlin from Almost Home Boxers. How adorable….

(to be sung to the tune of “I wanna be like you” from the Jungle Book )

Now I’m the queen of the rescues
Oh, the desert VIP
I’ve learned to fetch and happy to play
I’m housetrained and crate trained too
I wanna be a couch potato
And snuggle up to you
And be just like the other dogs
I’m tired of getting’ a tan!

Oh, oobee doo
I wanna be with you
I wanna walk with you
Woo at you, too
You’ll see it’s true
Any dog like me
Can melt your heart too

Now here’s your part of the deal, friend
Lay the secret on me of your desires

Now don’t try to kid me, friend
I will make a deal with you
What I desire is a game of tug
To make my dreams come true
Give me the secret, friend
Clue me what to do
Give me the power of a dog rope toy
So I can play with you

You!
I wanna sit with you
I wanna eat with you
Woo at you, too
You’ll see it’s true
A dog like me
Can learn to be
The perfect one for you!

Now that our voices are all warmed up, let’s take a moment to read a couple extras about me. My family dumped me at the AHS because they were moving and apparently I couldn’t go along. I have been kept outdoors my entire life; hence I’m the desert VIP! Even though to some it may seem like my family didn’t care about me, I think they did. They taught me to play fetch, walk on a leash, and kept me well socialized with other dogs. I was bred often and come with a great set of knockers as a result of it. I like to give my foster brother lots of kisses. He doesn’t kiss me back though – is it my breath or my gigantic tongue that turns him off? I have caught on very quickly to house-training and crate training. I am learning to play nicely with the cats. I love to play fetch and when they go whizzing past me at lightning speed I assume I need to go get them and bring them back to my foster mom. Not so much. I’m a great guard dog and will protect you from strangers if we’re outside. Inside I’m a little snuggle bunny! I love to be pet, sleep at your feet, and rest my head on a soft pillow. I heard my foster mom tell her friend last night that I am so wonderful she would keep me if she could. Now what do you have to say about that??

She was given up with another sheltie by her owner as they were not doing well with another dog in the household nor the younger granddaughter. Sandy is a pleasant and low-key girl who may be slowing down but still shows a spark and particularly around dinnertime when she can literally hop a little on her rear legs. She has been well-behaved at her foster family and “low-maintenance”. She does not bark much. We do know that she has shown problems with some dogs and cats. As she really does not seem to want to interact to any extent with other dogs we think she would do best as an only dog where she can get the undivided attention and where there are no cats. This periodic behavior with other dogs seems surprising given her general demeanor. Since she is getting older we think she would also enjoy a quieter type household without regular small children. Sandy has been well house-trained. Aside from slowing down, which could reflect the onset of some arthritis and a fatty tumor on her chest Sandy actually seems in good shape. She has been microchipped, was previously spayed, and is current on her vaccinations.
