Chance was one of four puppies rescued in January, 2008, as part of a puppy mill rescue effort. He and his siblings were bred in a Missouri puppy mill and put up for sale at an animal auction. When they did not sell, they were rescued by an organization that picks up animals that are sickly, old, no longer breeding, or otherwise unable to be sold or used and deemed unadoptable. Then they are transported across the continent to various rescue organizations. Lucky Chance was placed in the Arizona Animal Assistance rescue group.

Chance was very sickly and thin. He had a terrible upper respiratory infection causing him difficulty breathing and massive drainage from his eyes and nose. He was extremely underweight and malnourished. His system was full of worms and he also had a raging case of Coccidia. Chance required extra TLC and massive amounts of medications, vet appointments and breathing treatments. His foster parents took him in promising him a fighting chance and never denying him the extensive care and time he needed.

Once Chance was healthy and fit enough to be neutered and placed up for adoption, his foster mom realized she could not bare to part with him and he found a forever home in her arms.

Arizona Animal Assistance has been rescuing giant breed dogs since 2004. They have rescued and rehomed over 300 various giant breeds, mainly Great Danes, but also including Mastiffs and Bullmastiffs.
