Zeus was spotted by some concerned individuals as he chasing after his owners as they rode their bikes around the neighborhood in Phoenix’s extreme July heat. He was extremely underweight and looked as though he was not being properly cared for. When Poverty’s Pets volunteers were contacted and informed about this beautiful German Shepherd, they decided to investigate. They tracked down the owners and warned them of possible law interaction on the dog’s behalf due to obvious poor health conditions. Wanting no attention from the police, the dog was promptly handed over!

Not knowing the dog’s temperament, he was temporarily boarded with a partnering rescue group that could kennel him for the night and give him some dinner! Being in this new environment made Zeus very fearful and he displayed signs of aggression. Poverty’s Pets immediately picked him up with lots of caution. To their happy surprise, Zeus was a delight once removed from the kennel and he promptly earned the nickname “Muffin!” He gained weight and became even more beautiful. He loved to play with his foster dog roommates and go to the park with his foster parents.

He was adopted by Deborah and Joe who promptly scolded Poverty’s Pets for not warning them how much room an eighty pound dog takes up in their bed! Per Deborah and Joe: “Zeus is protective and loving and absolutely wonderful!”

Poverty’s Pets is delighted that Zeus found loving parents to give him a happy home and all the dog food he can eat!

I personally love this photo because I think it shows off his gentle and loving personality..
