Sophie was originally purchased from a breeder as a puppy. Her owner loved her very much but did not have the time to properly care for her. He was was frequently gone up to 12 hours a day and had to leave her indoors with no outside access to relieve herself. Eventually, he realized that he needed to surrender her to the Valley Dogs Rescue Group in hopes that someone with more time to care for her would adopt her.

While in foster care, she was having a lot of accidents in the house. So, she was taken to the vet where they discovered that she had a urinary tract infection. This was possibly a result of infrequent and limited outdoor access. The caring folks at Valley Dogs Rescue worked with the vet to treat this issue.

Sophie was found to be a very sweet-natured dog, always rolling on her side for belly rubs and craving attention. However, Sophie’s foster mom noticed that she did not appear to know basic commands, such as sit and stay. She also did not know how to walk on a leash. During basic training to teach her good behaviors, Sophie would cower, turn her head, and flinch her eyes as if she was getting ready to be hit. She would often run and hide under a table or the sofa.
Valley Dogs learned that Sophie was terrorized by the breeder’s young children, thus she is very fearful of children and sometimes snaps in self-defense. She has been abused, neglected and tossed from one bad situation to another. But her her little spirit still shines through. She is now in a loving foster home with a foster brother, a Lhasa Apso named Guss, where she is learning basic skills, and how to be a balanced dog.

Sophie is in need of a forever home!
