Destiny, the Pit Bull

Throughout this project, I have managed to maintain my composure as the heart-breaking stories of abuse and neglect have come in. It has been real hard, but I have managed to “keep it together”…. that is, until I saw this photo of Destiny. It hit me… hard. I cried for hours, all morning long.

They say that a picture says a thousand words. This saying holds true for this photo…

Although it is hard to believe from this photo, Destiny was not a stray when she was found. She was an “owned” dog and a victim of cruel neglect.  Her basic needs were ignored to the point where she had life threatening pneumonia and malnutrition.  It seemed there was a good chance that she would not survive.

Lucky for Destiny, the Humane Society of Yuma took her in and then the Mayday Pit Bull Rescue stepped in and took her under their loving care as a foster dog.

Under foster care, she was put on a high dosage of antibiotics, breathing treatments, percussion therapy and fed every two hours.  Just a few short months ago, she weighed under 30 lbs. Just look at her now…

Destiny has found a good friend in her foster home named Chopper, a wiener dog.   He immediately took to Destiny and cared for her when she was down.   He would lay with her when she was too weak to walk, and plays with her now that she is strong.

Destiny has been a giant success and gets stronger everyday. She will bring true joy to some lucky new owner’s home!  Destiny is still looking for her forever home….. Could it be yours?
