A few weeks ago, I posted Buddy’s photos and story. I wasn’t super happy with the photos because the poor little guy was so scared of all that was going on in my studio. It was all a little strange to him the photos didn’t show off the spunky personality that I knew that he really had. So his mom and grandma were kind enough to bring him back in for another session. He was still pretty timid and just didn’t like being in front of the big flashing lights. So, we took him outside and let him just explore a little and relax.
My assistant Carolyn helped to grab his attention on the camera and I got this great shot of him. I had to remove the background and replace it with white to go along with the theme of the book but I think it still looks pretty good…

Below is the original post from the first photo session:
Buddy is a 2 year old male Rat Terrier. His prior owner was seen dragging him across a hot Wal-Mart parking lot. He had asphalt burned into his skin on both sides and a chain embedded into his neck. The owner was stopped by someone in the lot and was asked to surrender the dog, which she did. Those individuals that took Buddy contacted Sandy the AZ Jack Russell Rescue group and handed him over into their care. Sandy took him in for veterinary care and then took him into her own home.

In early May, Buddy was rescued by a lovely young woman named Cheryl who says, “I contacted Sandy after losing my dog of only six years to cancer. Sandy told me Buddy’s story and I was appalled at how someone could treat an animal that way. I went to go visit him and instantly fell in love. He is so loving and only wants to please. Surprisingly, he has no issues on a leash or with people at all. He has a scar on his neck and bald spots on his head that will probably never grow hair again.”

“He is so spoiled now. He is an indoor dog, and sleeps in bed with me. He enjoys going outside and “hunting” or just running around. He loves to go on walks when it’s not hot out. He will follow you around like a shadow. He is such a joy to have in my life. I’m so glad that I rescued that dog!”

Shirley Williams - That was a horror story! These are the gentlest and most loving dogs. I hope Buddy lives a long and happy life with his new person, Cheryl. She will certainly get her spot in heaven for giving this little man a forever home.
Those photographs are superb. They capture both his loving nature as well as his past pain. Great job.
Rosemary - You are a talented photographer to capture these priceless shots, especially the last one of Buddy lapping his tongue. It takes a special person to capture the souls of these dogs that have gone through so much and are still willing to give love.
